Virginia Museum of Natural History
21 Starling Ave
Martinsville, Virginia 24112 Get Directions
The ocean is a wonderful and mysterious place. Visitors can look for features of the ocean floor on a giant map, touch fossils that are millions of years old and see whale fossils found in Virginia. There is a slide show presentation that highlights fossil excavations at the Carmel Church Quarry in Caroline County, Virginia. Visitors can get up close and personal with a mako shark jaw and teeth from several other species of shark. This exhibit is full of marvelous specimens from the ocean, whether they are modern or fossils.
