Believe it or not, the first sound feature film was made 80 years
ago, and it premiered on October 6, 1927. The film was THE JAZZ
SINGER, and its star was none other than Mr. Al Jolson (1886 - 1950),
known as the World's Greatest Entertainer. To celebrate the 80th anniversary of this landmark film, The American Cinematheque is hosting a weekend
tribute to Al Jolson, in partnership with the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences. The weekend features a screening of THE
