Norman Rockwell's 323 Saturday Evening Post Covers
Friday August 28, 2009 from 10:00am - 5:00pm
Norman Rockwell Museum
Nine Glendale Rd.
Dalton, Massachusetts 01226 Get Directions
Explore this archival collection of every single Norman Rockwell 'Saturday Evening Post' cover, starting with his first illustration for the publication, printed in 1916 when the artist was 22 years old. Rockwell called the magazine the "greatest show window in America." Over the years, Rockwell and the Post became synonymous; he painted 321 different images for the weekly publication through 1963. (Rockwell's final cover was a 1960 portrait of John F. Kennedy, reprinted in honor of the just-assassinated president.) This collection of original tearsheets is more than a remarkable visual history of an artist's development; it offers a compelling pictorial summary of life in 20th century America.
