Jazz Mafia Presents: SHOTGUN WEDDING HIP HOP SYMPHONY
Wednesday July 8, 2009 at 10:00pm
Yoshi's
1330 Fillmore Street
San Francisco, California 94115 Get Directions
Jazz Mafia Wednesdays:

Featuring the highest concentration of raw, virtuosic talent in the Bay Area, San Francisco’s Jazz Mafia Collective will kick off their ‘First Wednesdays’ residency at Yoshi’s San Francisco on July 8th. The nights will alternate between the Realistic Orchestra and the Shotgun Wedding Hip Hop Symphony. Forming the core of the long-running ‘Jazz Mafia Tuesdays’ (voted ‘Best Live Music Weekly’ by SF Weekly in 2006 and 2007) and Theis’ recent sold-out, Palace of Fine Arts premier for ‘Brass, Bows and Beats’ (a jazz-hop suite for 60-piece orchestra), both groups seamlessly blend improvisational jazz with hip hop, funk, electronica and latin, for a dynamic mix of ambitious originals and free-wheeling, genre-defying arrangements of classic charts.

The Return of Brass, Bows and Beats:

Once is simply not enough….Brass, Bows and Beats is Back!

After knocking out a standing- room only crowd at the Palace of Fine Arts in its renowned debut, the Hip Hop Symphony returns, this time to Yoshi’s SF. From Adam Theis, The Jazz Mafia and Yonas Media comes an unprecedented work born in the true spirit of jazz, and celebrated with a 40-piece ensemble featuring the best vocalists, MCs and instrumental chops the Bay has to offer. A creative force on the Bay Area music scene for more than a decade, visionary bandleader Adam Theis is known for ensembles such as the Realistic Orchestra and The Jazz Mafia Horns, among others. With this Gerbode Foundation commission, the fearless innovator has made a major contribution to the constantly evolving American art form known as jazz. Approached with innovation and improvisation, the multi-thematic work embraces jazz tradition and sends a positive and pertinent message for our times, creating an historical impact that simply can not be denied. Don’t miss the chance to see and hear this tremendous symphonic work onstage. Live CD of shocking debut now available!
