Subject: Rock'n'Rebirth
There seems to be alot of famous artists doing unconventional things like dropping their labels (Madonna), posting their music online (Radiohead) and encouraging remixing (NIN) these days. What's up with that? Is this signaling a rebirth of the music industry? Does the future look even more bleak for record labels and the RIAA? Are they finally coming to terms with what we've known for years?
And most of all: what are the new protocols? Mike Linksvayer from Creative Commons will lead this exciting discussion on the potential of this rebirth.
Speaker/Discussion Leader: Mike Linksvayer, Creative Commons
These meet-ups are intended to get people interested and working in the media web together to discuss what it means to be open. Those working on open protocols, methods and formats on the web are very welcome, too!.
The model for the future that my company Strayform is pushing is to fund the creation of new works and then release them openly under Creative Commons. The middle-man is removed, Artists get paid, Funders get a chance to be involved in the creation process, and the media is allowed to trade freely.
