The Yellow River Bandits CFDA club will be holding a Fast Draw Contest, open to the general public to compete in, to be held over 4 consecutive Saturdays. The qualifying matches start Saturday, June 20th, 2009, 4-8pm and the same time frame the next 3 Saturdays. The first Saturday Qualifier Match will be at Last Call Bar and Grill on Hwy 70 just outside of Siren, WI, with the next Saturdays’ event being held at Jeds’, the next week at Whiskey Joes, and the Finals being held on July 11th at Whiskey Joes. Some of you may remember the first contest in the area held at Whiskey Joe’s in early December this past winter, with over 30 shooters signing up to try their hand and compete for cash prizes. 1st place winner was Austin Reid, hitting the jackpot with a .777 on the first shot! Due to demand, the Bandits are giving everyone another chance to claim braggin’ rights and cash prizes once again!
Shooting in the Finals will cost $5 and you'll shoot against other finalists in an actual CFDA-style 3X elimination championship, where shooters will be paired off against each other and shoot until they lose 3 rounds, whittlin’ things down ‘til we crown a new Champ! 50% of the entry fees will be awarded to the top 3 finalists in addition to a plaque and braggin’ rights!!!
CFDA is Cowboy Fast Draw, one of the fastest, and fastest growing, shooting sports around. The Yellow River Bandits are an affiliated club of the national CFDA parent organization, whose motto we echo…”Safety First, Fun Second, Competition Third”. The first, safety, is our largest goal and focus. We follow the rules set forth by the CFDA to ensure that everyone involved in the sport, shooters and spectators alike are safe from any harm, and the records show that we are successful in that….over 40 years of fast draw with no serious injuries reported, no small feat for a sport that uses real .45 caliber revolvers shooting wax bullets at over 800 ft per second. Then fun and competition…you haven’t lived fully until ya’ dress up in late 1800’s attire, strap on a shootin’ rig and face the light and timer and compete against the shooter next to you to see who is the fastest gun around! Clubs hold regular practice shoots in addition to regular competition shoots for prizes, money, and braggin’ rights. Clubs also hold many shoots to raise money for charities, while at the same time promoting safe shooting and gun handling, often involved in gun education courses and seminars. Special mention goes out to our “parent” club, the Black River Bandits of South Range/Superior WI for all of their inspiration, help, and support, and to Dividend Lumber for supplying some of the materials used as backstops and such as we got on our feet and going. And, to Joe, for providing us a place to be.
To find out more, go to www.yellowriverbandits.com and check out the info and links there including the CFDA link, or come to Whiskey Joes’ Saloon on Highway 70, about 2 miles east of Siren, WI and watch the club in action at practices most every Saturday at 2 pm….. We’ll even help ya’ strap on a club members gunbelt and try it for real!
