HANDS-ON: Trigger Points for Lumbar, Hips, Buttocks and Groin Issues

This New Westminster workshop will deal mainly with the mid-body between the lower thoracic area and the upper thigh. We will be locating and treating TrPs in the QL, iliopsoas, erector spinae group, all gluteal muscles, piriformis, obliques, rectus abdominis, adductors, vastus lateralis, TFL, semimembranosis, semitendinosis and soleus.

Other issues that may have a myofascial trigger point source, such as IBS, bladder control issues, painful menstrual cramps, and other pelvic issues will be discussed and demonstrated during the workshop.

As well, we will briefly discuss the intrapelvic muscles and their role, as related to this workshop.

This workshop is designed for bodyworkers and other interested health professionals, who treat pain issues and want hands-on instruction for assessing, locating and treating myofascial trigger points.

OBJECTIVES:

- Detailed palpation techniques of muscles for trigger points, treatment techniques, post-treatment protocol, latent / active TrPs, contraindications.

- Explain how TrPs play a major role in lumbar, hips, buttocks and groin issues.

- The muscles that play a causal role in lumbar, hips, buttocks and groin Issues - and how to deactivate their trigger points.

- How exercise affects trigger points in the lumbar, hips, buttocks and groin muscles.

- Explain why TrPs always affect muscle strength and performance and why muscle performance always improves when trigger points are removed.

- The effects of heat / ice on TrPs.

- Discuss stress, medications, over-use, trauma and skeletal abnormalities regarding TrPs.

- Discuss how individual attendees might incorporate trigger point knowledge into their profession

PREREQUISITE: Have previously attended an “Understanding Trigger Points to Overcome Pain”, presented by William Huhn. This prerequisite may be waived at the discretion of the presenter.

PLEASE NOTE:

- Due to the physical nature of this workshop, all attendees will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to commencing class. As well, anyone with conditions that may be exacerbated by physical contact (e.g. fibromyalgia) should contact William Huhn directly, at (250)741-1263, prior to registration.

- All attendees should dress appropriately for a massage/bodywork class (portions of the lower body, may be exposed during class). Bring along a yoga mat if possible.

- Any registrants from the lower mainland, who have massage tables they could bring to class - it would be greatly appreciated.

- Course fee includes comprehensive and detailed course manual.

Course Instructor: William N. Huhn

Raised on Canada’s beautiful west coast, in Vancouver and surrounding areas - William moved in 1989, to the less hectic pace of Nanaimo, where he and his family appreciatively call home.

Training and working for years as a Paramedic with BC Ambulance and also in Manitoba, as an EMT (Paramedic) and hospital ER Assistant - he now works in a much calmer (somewhat anti-adrenaline) setting, as owner and operator of William Huhn Trigger Point Technique.

A self-confessed Trigger Point apostle since 2002, William has committed over 2000 private-study hours, within this extensive modality as well as other related courses/workshops that include Trigger Point, Bowen Technique, Fitness Theory and Exercise Physiology. He has developed a Trigger Point workshop, that is currently the only one of it’s kind in Canada; designed for Personal Trainers, Fitness Leaders, Yoga Instructors, et al., and is approved by BCRPA for C.E. Credits.

William sees clients daily at his offices in Nanaimo and is currently working on other Trigger Point specialty workshops for Fitness Leaders (C.E.C.’s) and also Trigger Point seminars for the general public.

Since 2004, his Trigger Point technique has successfully treated and improved the quality of life for hundreds of clients with soft-tissue pain as well as other myofascial based issues.

Host: Rick Kaselj – MS, BSc, PK, CPT, CEP, CES

Rick Kaselj specializes in exercise rehabilitation, post-rehab, active rehabilitation, exercise therapy and corrective exercise. He works in one-on-one and group rehabilitation settings, training people who have been injured at work, in car accidents and during sport activities. His clients and group exercise participants include a wide variety of individuals from healthy and special populations. Rick has given over 233 presentations to 4531 fitness professionals and consumers across Canada while continuing to work in rehabilitation centers, physiotherapy clinics, fitness clubs and personal training studios. Rick recently completed his Masters of Science degree focusing on corrective exercise and therapeutic exercise for the rotator cuff.
