5K Run/Walk for Freedom: Rescuing Girls from Sex Trafficking
Sponsored by International Crisis Aid
@Saint Louis University Campus, Saturday, September 19, 2009

International Crisis Aid (ICA) has been rescuing girls from sex trafficking and forced prostitution since December 2006. ICA currently have 7 rescue homes in Ethiopia and Cambodia. In October 2008, the organization met with representatives from the FBI to discuss sex trafficking and the need for rescue homes in the U.S. for American victims of sex trafficking and forced prostitution. We were told there are currently only 49 beds available in the U.S. for American victims. If girls are rescued, they are forced into the juvenile system and usually charged. As a result of these meetings, ICA has decided to open homes in the U.S. for young American girls rescued from the horrors of sex trafficking, with the goal being to have the first home in St. Louis by the end of 2009. ICA will apply the proceeds from our inaugural 5K Run/Walk for Freedom to open a home in the U.S. for American children who are rescued from sex trafficking and forced prostitution.

Check-in: 7:00 am
Run/Walk will begin 8:00 am
Registration Fee: $25 (for adults and children)
A $10 procrastinator's fee will be added after Sept 16.
Registration accepted online only: http://www.crisisaid.org/5k.html

Participants that raise $75 in addition to their $25 registration fee will receive a free 5K t-shirt. SLU is providing free parking for the event but participants are encouraged to carpool. Water and light refreshments will be provided.

Also, if anybody works for a company that would like to help sponsor this event, ICA is seeking gift-in-kind donations to offset this expense and help with the cause.

For more information on ICA: http://www.crisisaid.org
It's a really great cause that, in conjunction with the FBI, will help girls right here in St Louis and across the U.S.
