Continuing the summer Newport Gallery Night series, CADEAUX du MONDE's owner Katie Dyer will be presenting ongoing informal gallery talks from 5:00 until 8:00 in the evening of July 9th exploring the varied traditions of modern Haitian oil drum art. These gallery talks will be illustrated with CADEAUX du MONDE's current collection of fairly traded modern Haitian Oil Drum Art which is hand-tooled by hammering and cutting recycled steel oil drums. These one of a kind works of folk art tell the stories of the art, history and traditions of the Haitian people including the marrying of the Voodoo religious traditions with Roman Catholicism.
Located in Newport at 26 Mary Street, CADEAUX du MONDE's main gallery features fairly traded international folk art and Galerie Escalier, the former servants' staircase, showcases local artists' works on a rotating basis. For further information and directions to the gallery, contact the staff of CADEAUX du MONDE at 848-0550.
