Hal Young is a homeschooling father of eight and former president of North Carolinians for Home Education. As an advocate of privately funded, parent-directed education, Hal has appeared on the CBS Evening News, N.C. Public Radios The State of Things, the USA Radio Network and State Government Radio; his articles have appeared in publications of the Foundation for Economic Education, the Heartland Institute, and most frequently in Carolina Journal. He is also a frequent speaker at conference events including the N.C. Department of Public Instruction's Accountability Conference, the Home School Legal Defense Association's National Christian Home school Leadership Conference, and later this month, the Arizona Families for Home Education convention in Phoenix. Hal is co-author with his wife Melanie of Raising Real Men: Surviving, Teaching, and Appreciating Boys, coming out later this year from Great Waters Press.
