From his early visions as a child to his later prints and poems, English writer and artist William Blake saw the world through the vivid lens of his personal theology. Art educator Jeffrey Allison from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will give listeners insight into this unique individual in a free illustrated lecture on Monday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street. The program is part of the free lecture series, "Centuries of Art @ Your Library," sponsored by This Century Gallery in partnership with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and Williamsburg Regional Library. Reservations are not needed. For more information, contact the library at (757) 259-4070 or This Century Art Gallery at 757-229-4949.
Influencing countless artists and writers, most of whom worked long after his death in 1827, Blakes imaginative genius still enthralls viewers today. Though most often known for his poetry and prose, Blake was also an accomplished artist, regarded as seminal and significant in both fields. This lecture focuses on Blakes illuminations, prints and paintings in the context of his personal and literary life.
Centuries of Art @ Your Library is made possible through This Century Art Gallery's partnership program with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA). It has been organized by the Office of Statewide Partnerships of the VMFA and is supported by the Paul Mellon Endowment.
