DesignBuildBLUFF's mission is to create architecture that nurtures the spirit and improves the lives of all who experience it. It took its first steps out in into the desert in January of 2004. Eight University of Utah graduate architecture students had spent the previous fall learning about the landscape, culture, and lifestyle of Utah's southeast. This knowledge became fodder for the design of a home for some of the last people to expect it; all that remained was to translate drawings and ideas into a sound and occupiable house. Aches, raw hands, and cold gave way to sun, strength, and the prospect of a home for a single Navajo mother without access to power or water. DesignBuildBLUFF has continued to design and build homes out in the far reaches of the Navajo Nation since. Come hear the stories of rammed earth, solar hot water, and the architecture of compassion. Free admission.
