Shakespeare and the Culture of Paradox
Peter G. Platt
Author Peter G. Platt explores Shakespeare’s interest in uncertainty, mystery, and doubt. In Shakespeare’s plays, opposites can co-exist, perspectives can be altered, beliefs reconsidered -- and paradox is used to question love, gender, knowledge and truth from multiple perspectives. While showing that Shakespeare’s plays create and are created by a culture of paradox, Platt offers an exciting and innovative investigation of Shakespeare’s cognitive and affective power over his audience.
