NEWS RELEASE
JULY 16, 2009

Friends of Music concludes its 2008-2009 season with the annual performance in Kennett by the Southeast Missouri Regional Jazz Orchestra, directed by Scott Rybolt , on Saturday, August 1, at 5:00 p.m., in the Mayes Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church, W. Washington at N. Jackson Streets, in Kennett. Please note the early starting time.

The Orchestra has become a regular in Kennett, and will continue its tradition of presenting different styles of jazz - swing, funk, Latin, cool, from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Dave Brubeck, Chuck Mangione, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, such favorites as "April in Paris," "Fly Me to the Moon," "Pennsylvania 6-5000," and much more, both old and new - in an upbeat, informal, and fun tribute to the rich history of American jazz.

The 20-piece Orchestra includes performers from a wide variety of area communities, backgrounds, and current circumstances:

lead alto, Scott Rybolt (band director, Dexter H.S.); 2nd alto, Brandon Moore (sophomore, Dexter H.S.); lead tenor, Kyle Dare (superintendent, Puxico Public Schools), 2nd tenor, Daniel Webb (senior, Dexter H.S.); baritone sax, Kristy Weaver (elementary music, Poplar Bluff);

lead trumpet, James Eldreth (senior, SEMO); 2nd trumpet, Brooke Privett (Master's candidate, SEMO); 3rd trumpet, T. J. Irvin, (junior, Poplar Bluff H.S,); Adam Clark (DAEOC, Dexter and senior, Hannibal-LaGrange); 5th trumpet, Carrie Lizenbee (junior/senior, TRCC /CMC);

lead trombone, Matt Gates (sophomore, SEMO); 2nd trombone, Ethan Jackson (freshman, Missouri State); 3rd trombone, Jim Wade (band director, Dexter H.S.); 3rd trombone, Alex Rybolt (freshman, Dexter H.S.); bass trombone, Ethan Morgan (senior, Dexter H.S.); piano, Brad Jones (senior, Dexter H.S.); piano, Joseph Greer (freshman, Dexter H.S.); bass, Kyle Clay (junior, St. Louis Mortuary School); drums, Jason DeBerry (freshman, ASU); guitar, Justin Stanton (band director, Poplar Bluff H.S.).

Featured on the program will be Kennett-native Brooke Privett's flugelhorn and trumpet stylings on Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good" and Matt Gates' beautiful trombone and Jason DeBerry ("sitting in for Buddy Rich") on "West Side Story Suite."

Admission to the event is free, and everyone is cordially invited.
