With the publication of the Sainsbury review of Government’s Science and Innovation Policies, it is again highlighted that our society has failed to make sense of the intellectual and creative challenge demanded by careers in industry and that cultural prejudice still exists in relation to manufacturing. Dr Stan Owers' thesis addressed the reasons for this failure and this lecture series is designed to maintain a focus on the action that should be taken to rectify it. The format includes ample time for discussion following a presentation by our guest speaker, Jeff Roche and respondent, Dr Raj Rajagopal.
Jeff Roche is a student on the Innovative Manufacturing course at Loughborough University and will describe his experiences, challenges and viewpoint on the hurdles and highlights of his journey into the world of engineering and manufacturing. Jeff was a highly successful school student at King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford.
Dr Raj Rajagopal, who has worked for over 25 years in the field of manufacturing technology and product development, will respond to Jeff's story and lead a discussion for all participants to join in. Raj is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET – formerly the IEE) which awarded him the IEE Eric Mensforth International Gold Medal for outstanding contribution to manufacturing technology and management. He is also a Trustee of the IET and chairs its Manufacturing Sector Panel.
