In May, before the movie Rize ? which documents the LA street dance known as " krumping" ? came out, Oakland freestyle team the Architeckz beat the film's stars in a dance battle at Laney College. The Architeckz' Jeriel Bey was the first to formalize Oakland street dance as a competitive sport in 2002. "Turf dancing" ? aka "taking up room on the floor" ? is nothing like the high-speed krumping. Using silky smooth moves like the moonwalk mixed with park mime, this dance style tells a personal story. The Architeckz host another dance battle, Lourds of the Ring III, today. Rize stars and Usher's choreographer make appearances.
