Democrats Abroad?s First-Ever Global Primary for Democratic Presidential Candidate
Tokyo--After the US election of 2006, control of the Senate came down to a single race in the State of Virginia, and that race was close; at times, mere hundreds of votes separated the two candidates. After two days of counting, it was the absentee ballots sent in from American citizens living throughout the world that handed Democrat Jim Webb the Senate seat by a slim margin, thus handing control of Congress to the Democrats for the first time in 12 years.
This February, millions of U.S. citizens from Toronto to Timbuktu will play another crucial role in American politics when they vote between February 5 and 12, 2008, in the first-ever global primary to choose the Democratic nominee for President.
Voting is easy. Between February 5 and 12, members can vote by Internet, fax or post. In addition, Democrats Abroad Japan is one of 34 countries that will provide traditional drop-in voting for its members. Drop-in voting centers will be available on February 5th in Tokyo, 10th Kansai and 9th Tokai. More information will be available at
www.demsjapan.jp.
