Les Délices - Chamber Music of the French Baroque
Saturday February 16, 2008 at 7:30pm
First Unitarian Church
21600 Shaker Blvd
Cleveland, Ohio 44122 Get Directions
The "Sun King," Louis XIV, maintained a large retinue of musicians, the best of whom performed daily concerts for him in his private chambers. Viola da gamba virtuoso Marin Marais, the king's harpsichordist Jean-Henry D'Anglebert, and wind player Anne Danican Philidor contribute works to this program, which is rounded out with intimate vocal airs, selections from François Couperin's Concerts Royaux, and trios "for the King's Chamber" by Jean-Baptiste Lully. Formed in 2006 by director Debra Nagy, ensemble Les Délices's performances last winter were described by audience members as "exquisite," "superb," and "magnifique!" One of the few outstanding baroque oboists in the U.S., Debra has been hailed for her "dazzling technique and soulful expressiveness" (Rocky Mountain News), and was the First Prize winner of the 2002 American Bach Soloists Young Artists Competition. She is joined by acclaimed harpsichordist Lisa Goode Crawford, violinist Scott Metcalfe, and Emily Walhout (viola da gamba).
