Fox Valley residents on Feb. 5 will vote in two separate elections: the general primary, which will include federal, state and county offices, as well as local referendum questions; and the special primary, which will decide who the final candidates will be to serve the remainder of the 14th Congressional District seat vacated last November by Rep. Dennis Hastert.

To vote in either election, whether taking a Republican, Democratic or independent ballot, people must be registered by Jan. 8.

Voters who do register in time actually can start casting their ballots in just 11 days. Early voting for the primary election starts Jan. 14 and will run through Jan. 31.
