This is a party for friends, so If I don't know you yet, you're not invited. Sorry. By all means try to introduce yourself to me before the event.

“Imagine”, sang John Lennon. “All the people”, he's rumoured to have continued. All of them? Really? Can you imagine all the people? Of course not. There are people living in parts of the Brazilian rainforest that no-one has even found yet. How could you possibly imagine something that no-one else has seen? Are you some kind of imagination super-man? Of course, you are not.

Don't worry though, rampant deforestation will ensure within 20 years we discover every hidden civilisation that still lurks in those countries just far enough away not to emotionally affect us. Then we'll all be able to imagine them; thanks to photographs.

Once those refugees are unhappily forced into our idea of society long enough to become graphic designers, learn HTML or at least ride a fixed gear bicycle, perhaps they'll consider moving around the world and living in San Francisco. Why not? That's what Ben did, all of one year ago.

Research suggests that upon completing a 12 month stint in San Francisco, it's customary to celebrate a San Franniversary with friends, beer, and hearty laughter. And wine and cheese. Since the word ‘Franniversary’ is also absurd, you're instead invited to the far less pompous First Annual Ben Party.

Assuming nothing illegal goes down that causes Ben to later be deported, you can presume that a Second Annual Ben Party will occur at the same time next year. You should probably attend this one to be sure.

The format is somewhat familiar: Show up, bring some drinks or anything you like. If you want to bring friends, that's probably fine but a polite heads-up to me first is very much encouraged.
