Science with a Twist presents "African Ascent"
Thursday April 17, 2008 at 6:00pm

Seattle, Washington 98109 Get Directions
Climbing, culture, canapes and cocktails! Science with a Twist is excited to bring you this very special evening in partnership with The Young Professionals International Network (YPIN) of the World Affairs Council. Explore the fascinating journey described in Vertical Ethiopia: Climbing Towards Possibility in the Horn of Africa, which tells the story of how four women traveled to northern Ethiopia to climb virgin sandstone towers in the Horn of Africa. Majka Burhardt, the book's author and leader of the expedition, will share vignettes that reveal what it means to climb, to travel, and to explore, while looking closely at the intersections between adventure and culture, history and opportunity, sky and sandstone. Spectacular pictures from the trip, taken by National Geographic photographer Gabe Rogel, vividly bring the story to life. Join us early at 6 p.m. for an Ethiopian-inspired happy hour featuring snacks, cocktails and discovery! Tickets are $20; $17 for Pacific Science Center and World Affairs Council members; includes first drink from the bar; 21+ with ID. For reservations call (206) 443-3611.
