This year, the "dog days of summer" will feature a benefit Dog Walk to raise funds for Home for Life®, the Animal Sanctuary of St. Croix Valley. At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, dogs and dog lovers will gather at The Kenwood Retirement Community, 825 Summit Ave., Minneapolis, to stroll the Chihauhau loop (around the block) or the one-mile Great Dane trail to Lowry Hill Park and back. Registration fee includes a hot dog lunch (of course!), doggie treats, "paw-ticures," dog photos, prizes, special awards and more. Lunch is available beginning at 11:15am; the awards ceremony begins at 12:15pm. All proceeds go directly to Home for Life.
Home for Life is considered a new kind of animal shelter, providing lifetime care for special needs dogs and cats who cannot find a home but who can still lead quality lives. Home for Life offers several innovative community programs including the Senior Outreach Program where Home for Life staff, volunteers and animal residents visit nursing homes and retirement communities throughout the Twin Cities for therapy work with the elderly.
