Update 6/26/08 Just found out that the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival will be on the same weekend as the BBQ!! This would make a fun outing for the morning before the BBQ or on Sunday, the day after. It covers the streets and sidewalks of downtown Mystic. But it means there will be even more demand for hotel rooms. If you are planning on staying over, make your reservations ASAP!!
Update: Up to now, there has been insufficient interest in hotel rooms to try to get a block. Our offer of our upstairs floors to set up an air mattress on or whatever is still open. Just let us know so we're not overbooked.
However if you are thinking of making your own hotel arrangements, I would encourage you to act quickly as Mystic is mad popular in the summer. There are a lot of hotels in the area, but they book up!
We have three unused rooms upstairs in our house, but there's only one bed up there and a single full bathroom. If you want to bring an air mattress or sleeping bag and foam pad or something, we can accommodate a few - but y'all had better be close friends. :) Also, breakfast the next day is on you! Let me know if you would want to do that and I'll keep track of how many so we don't overbook. :)
Hey y'all, it's not too early to be thinking about summer, BBQs, cold beer, baseball, and everything else warm-weather related. 2008 will be the 2nd annual Social Media BBQ (although it wasn't called that year 1) and it's at my house in southeast Connecticut.
We are right on the shore, so the largest beach in Rhode Island is only a few minutes away in Misquamicut. We are less than 20 minutes from one of the largest casinos in the world, Foxwoods. And we are adjacent to Mystic, Connecticut, one of New England's favorite tourist destinations.
FYI, our house is less than 5 mins from the Mystic, CT Amtrak stop, and less than 15 mins from the New London, CT Acela stop. Also, we are only 45 mins from T.F. Green airport (code PVD) in Providence, RI.
Added a photo set of Watch Hill which is a place you should visit if you're in our area. Only 15 mins or so from our house, across the border in Rhode Island.
Oh man, this sounds GREAT, but it falls on the very first day I will have off after three weeks of nonstop work to put on a party for 15,000 people on August 3. I'll be dead, or nearly so. BUT I will watch, just in case something unforeseen happens and I can go.
Should we start a pool to benefit the peafund about whether It'll have come in at all and if so what color? I'll think of what prize I could give :)
