Tongva Rope-Making and Tools from California Native Plants
Saturday April 19, 2008 at 10:30am
Vroman's Bookstore
695 E. Colorado Blvd
Pasadena, California 91101 Get Directions
Join us for a great family event focusing on the beauty, usefulness and ecological function of our Golden State's diverse flora.

Rope-making was one of the most crucial skills of California's indigenous peoples, including the Tongva who lived in our area. Rope will be made from yucca fibers, and other goods and tools made from natural resources will be shown. Younger children will enjoy leaf activities.

Native plants not only help us use water wisely, but they provide an important connection between butterflies and birds, and allow us to be in harmony with our special but fragile environment.

Taught by Lisa Nowick from the Theodore Payne Foundation for Native Plants and Wildflowers.
