Namoli Brennet and Aiden James in Concert
Friday October 16, 2009 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Robert W. Rhoades Center
Clarion University - Venango Campus
Oil City, Pennsylvania Get Directions
There's something touching and achingly poignant about Brennet's voice - maybe it's the sound of transgender, the experience of knowing what it feels like to be unstable, on the edge, a little hard to define. In the wrong hands, that poignancy could easily turn sentimental, but with Brennet's deft touch the songs have an edge, a rawness and a gritty realness. Since 2002 she's self-produced 7 CDs, her most recent released in May of 2009. In addition to her songwriting, Brennet has also written several commissions, as well as scoring two plays, Boy (2008), and an adaptation of The Odyssey written by Pulitzer-Prize winner Derek Walcott. Her music has also been featured in the upcoming documentary Out in the Silence.

With a humble upbringing in a struggling working class family, becoming something other than ordinary was not celebrated or encouraged. Aiden refused to accept that and fled to Philadelphia where he embraced urban life, not to mention the local music scene. Currently living in downtown Philadelphia, this talented, twenty-something is making great strides for a self-taught musician. With a voice that's quietly powerful and strongly captivating, Aiden James is not only finding a place in our hearts... he's on the run with them. Free and open to the public.
