Created at a cultural crossroads, this exhibit of antique Samarkand carpets reflect a multitude of ancient influences in breathtaking multicultural designs. Dominated by pomegranate imagery, the carpets are embedded with subtle themes of sexuality and fertility. This exquisite collection was formed by an aristocratic English family who composed this extensive group of Samarkands during their travels abroad to decorate their stately home.
On view March 12 - 25, 2008 at the Doris Leslie Blau Gallery, 306 East 61st Street, 7th Floor, New York City.
