Local female artists perform to raise money for City of Joy, a safe haven for rape survivors in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Sexual violence in the Congo is one of the most pressing human rights issues in the region. As a result of the ongoing-armed conflict in the country, tens of thousands of women and young girls have been brutally raped, often left with substantial internal damage and shunned by their families.

Panzi Hospital in Bukavu is one of two facilities that specialize in the reconstructive surgery that is frequently needed in these cases. The hospital, with the help of UNICEF and V-Day (Eve Ensler’s organization), is in the process of building a facility to tend to the needs of these women, City of Joy. The project will house, educate and provide a chance for the ladies to earn income.

In the spirit of Pan-Africanism and Womanism join us for a fund-raising concert for the development of City of Joy.

ADMISSION: $15 (ALL proceeds from this event will be donated. )

CONFIRMED ARTISTS: Yolanda Sangweni, Ganessa James, Maritri Garrett, Adisa Vera Beatty, Margot Douaihy, Desiree Gordon
