Defying constant changes in the economic climate, the SC conference continues to grow steadily in size and impact each year. Approximately 4,100 people participated in the technical program in 2008, with about 11,000 people overall.

Established 21 years ago, the conference has built a diverse community of participants including researchers, scientists, computing center staff members, IT and data center management, application developers, computer manufacturing personnel, program managers, journalists and congressional staffers. This diversity is one of the conference's main strengths, making it a yearly "must attend" forum for stakeholders throughout the technical computing community.

The technical program is the heart of this event. It has addressed virtually every area of scientific and engineering research, as well as technological development, innovation, and education. Its presentations, tutorials, panels, and discussion forums have included breakthroughs in many areas and inspired new and innovative areas of computing.

SC09, the premier international conference on high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis, will convene in November 2009 in Portland OR. The City of Portland Oregon, the Rose City, is committed to clean air and water, livable neighborhoods, parks and open spaces for all, economic development that is sustainable for our environment, transportation that makes sense and much more. The Conference will emphasize this aspect of the local persona.
