Simon Jenkins: Sunday Times and Guardian columnist and author of "England's Thousand Best Churches" and "England's Thousand Best Houses".

Leon Krier: Architect and urban planner, best known for his design of the English model town of Poundbury for the Prince of Wales.

Roger Scruton: Philosopher who has written widely on political and cultural issues. Author of "The Aesthetics of Architecture".

Speakers against the motion:

Stephen Bayley: One of Britain's best known cultural commentators. Since 1990, he has been a design consultant working for numerous global brands including Absolut Vodka, TBWA, Marks & Spencer and Foster Associates.

Alain de Botton: Highly popular author whose latest book, "The Architecture of Happiness", discusses questions of beauty and ugliness in architecture.

Will Alsop: Internationally renowned British architect whose modernist buildings are distinguished for their vibrant use of colour and unusual forms.
