CASTANETS, LUX PERPETUA, VIRGIN FOREST & LACRYMOSA

Get your face SMASHED in (by soundfarts) as The Abbey throws its first promotional showcase at GLASSLANDS Gallery, a new interactive art space and music venue in Williamsburg. CASTANETS are from San Diego, and have been a fixture at ASTHMATIC KITTY RECORDS for years, you really oughtta know by now. Lux Perpetua, from Philadelphia, is the greatest thing I've heard in a long time. It's the prominent side project of Justin Wolf from THE EXTRAORDINAIRES, who are currently on tour with MAN MAN. Virgin Forest, part of the PHOSPHORESCENT crew, recently moved to Brooklyn. Lacrymosa (pet project of piano preternaturalist, Caitlin Pasko) has been getting a lot of attention recently; her lilting impressionistic songcraft will ensure her future repute.

Like the moment of reckoning in 'A Fist Full of Dollars,' dark and brooding, and brimming with primeval Wild Westisms. If you're a fan of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy or Songs: Ohia you'll be in love. Ray Rapaso, the genius behind Castanets, will be accompanied by a full band.

I've heard Lux Pereptua compared to Neutral Milk Hotel. One of the many differences between the erstwhile indie-icons and Lux Perpetua is that Justin Wolf actually has a gorgeous voice. He's the Neil Young to Bon Iver's Nick Drake. From Philly via Charlottesville.

Hailing from Gainesville, FL, Virgin Forest has a long history, entwined with Phosphorescent and Castanets. This will be their second show at Glasslands. If you're into Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Jolie Holland, or Bon Iver, they're a must-see.

These gorgeous vignettes take a more classical stance on the witty pop songs of Regina Spektor, landing closer to the sprawling and delicate wist of Joanna Newsom. Intricate and tender.

The bands will be accompanied by a projection installation by Borna Sammak (if he doesn't trip acid and get kicked out), which should be way-cül. We're working on some ideas, and I'm certain it'll make this aural bombast visually spectacular, too. After Castanets there'll be a DJ set with some dank jams. DJ remains TBA.
