Media Web Meetup V: The Gulf Between NorCal and SoCal, is it so big?
Tuesday April 15, 2008 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Neue Songbird Nest
585 Howard Street between 1st and 2nd
San Francisco, California 94107 Get Directions
Corey Denis and Mike McGinley will be talking to us about their many years of experience working in the music industry (they have some wild stories). They will also take us through the narrative of what is happening now as the major shifts happen.

The questions I want to ask are:

* Would the giants ever get on board with the Open Media Web? How can we build it so that they see the overall benefit?
* Is there any sign of adoption of web standards in the music industry?
* How far off are we from seeing real change?
* And if real change to the SoCal structure is impossible, what are your predictions for the future of the entertainment industry?

Should be a lively debate!

Corey Denis has been a music lover/activist for years, making waves in the industry through her work with Ioda (http://www.iodalliance.com/) and is currently the Director of Marketing at Rumblefish (http://rumblefish.com/). She's been rockin the music industry for years and has quite a reputation for making things happen.

For over twenty five years, Mike McGinley has garnered close business relationships with almost every major talent agency, management firm, and concert promoter both domestically and internationally. Mike has been focusing on the intersection between media and technology for the past 10 years now and has many interesting stories to tell.

++++++++++++++

These meet-ups are intended to get people interested and working in the media web together to discuss what it means to be open. Those working on open protocols, methods and formats on the web are very welcome, too!
