Southern Rep presents the regional premiere of 'I Am My Own Wife' by Doug Wright, directed by Carl Walker. Based on a true story, and inspired by interviews conducted by the playwright over several years, this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a real-life German transvestite who managed to survive the Nazi onslaught as well as the following repressive Communist regime. The one-man play stars Bob Edes, Jr. as over 40 characters, including the controversial figure herself and the American writer who became intrigued by her.
