Domes for Darfur is a effort by Championdarfur.com and Emerge Arts Project Inc. to help send some meaningful relief to the refugee camps sheltering the innocent civilians of Darfur.
During the month of February over 13,000 people of Darfur were violently forced from their homes and into the surrounding refugee camps in Sudan and Chad. That translates into roughly 19 people made homeless an hour for the entire month. We can not sit idle while this continues.
Though we are committed to helping bringing an end to the genocide we also can not turn our backs on those struggling to provide some symbolance of hope and stability in the refugee camps. That is why we have committed to send over 100 Yurt Dome Tents to the International Rescue Committee to be use in the refugee camps their work in.
With a 14 foot diameter and standing almost 7 feet in the center these structures can sleep 7-8 people comfortably, be used as medical tents, community gathering areas, school rooms. The number of uses that these structures could satisfy is countless.
Our first fund raiser will be held at Sujaro African Art Gallery in lovely Half Moon Bay. This event will have African drum and dance performances, Director and activist Mark Breck screening his new documentary, a auction, and much more.
