Gray Area Gallery, after making its mark on the San Francisco art scene last year, is taking a new leap forward. GAB, or Gray Area Beacon, is the gallery’s newest project, a new media program focusing on artists who are working in and around themes of technology and interaction.

San Francisco, CA--On Tuesday, April 22nd 2008, GAB currently housed at 1515 Folsom St., will open with a bang by showcasing artist Aaron Koblin, in his first ever San Francisco show. The piece “The Sheep Market” was recently featured in Wired Magazine’s March issue and has received international acclaim. Koblin is a media designer and artist focused on the creation and visualization of human systems. This piece, using new technology, transforms large abstract data sets into humanly contextualized information in the form of a large, collaborative completed, mass scale digital drawing. His piece entitled flight patterns is on exhibit at New York MOMA through May 12.

Evolution of Gray Area Beacon
GAB is an ongoing collaborative effort between Gray Area Gallery Director, Josette Melchor and Silicon Valley Executive Peter Hirshberg. Since moving to the Bay Area Josette has drawn inspiration from her work in the tech industry appreciating the ever-growing intersection between technology and art. Peter is a long time collector of technology-inspired art as well as a founder of several successful startups in the Bay Area.
