Raise your awareness, lower your inhibitions and celebrate the “State of the Queer Nation” at Big Idea Night, YBCA’s FREE pARTy on Saturday, November 14. Learn more about YBCA’s Big Idea, “Bridging the Gap,” which focuses on cultural distance and how to close gaps of misunderstandings between people.

Show off your pink triangle fashions at the “Soapbox Social” from 7- 9 pm. Queer luminaries each deliver a five-minute State of the Union address followed by cocktails and conversation. Participants include Therese Stewart (Deputy City Attorney and Marriage Equality Advocate), Sister Vicious Power Hungry Bitch (co-founder of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc.), Ryan Clary (Project Inform), and Anna Conda (Queerer Nation and Charlie Horse). “Soapbox” seats are limited so please RSVP at ybcafree.org.

At 9 pm, pARTy with performance artist Tim Miller; DJ Black and Crew spinning soulful house/eclectic homohop; Funk, punk, and crunk with Oaktown’s Hottub; and Diamond Daggers, Queer burlesque troupe featuring Simone de la Getto, La Chica Boom, and Alotta Boutte with hosts Ani Rivera (Dyke March) and the fabulous Sister Sara Femme (Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence). Plus a queer activist fair!

Experience YBCA visual art exhibitions When Lives Become Form: Contemporary Brazilian Art, 1960s to the Present; PAUSE: Keywords School, and Engagement, Commitment and Fresh Air: Fifty Years with the San Francisco Mime Troupe in the Room for Big Ideas. Also, short films in the Screening Room and cheap drinks all night long!
