San Francisco Taiko Dojo presents: The 2009 International Taiko Festival
Saturday November 14, 2009 at 7:00pm
Zellerbach Auditorium (UC Berkeley)
2430 Bancroft Way
Berkeley, California 94704 Get Directions
On November 14, UC Berkeley’s Zellerbach Hall will tremble from the thundering power of the world-renowned International Taiko Festival. The International Taiko Festival is widely considered to be one of the world’s foremost taiko festivals. It is the premier showcase for taiko musicians and special guest artists from the greater Bay Area and Japan. This year’s festival features special guest artists from Japan, Wako Daiko. Other guest artists include The San Francisco Rising Stars Dream Team, a group of teenagers and young adults trained by Grand Master Seiichi Tanaka; Sacramento Taiko Dan, the foremost Japanese drumming ensemble in the greater Sacramento region; and Jun Daiko from Mountain View.

Following their exuberant, sold-out 40th Anniversary concerts (2008), Grand Master Seiichi Tanaka has invited several world-class taiko companies to join him and the celebrated San Francisco Taiko Dojo in a dazzling showcase concert. Grand Master Tanaka and San Francisco Taiko Dojo will energize audiences with their trademark performances of traditional and contemporary rhythms, dance, and martial arts. Plus, San Francisco Taiko Dojo will premiere a new composition by Grand Master Tanaka.

The 41th annual International Taiko Festival is guaranteed to be a visual, aural, and visceral performance that blends formidable percussion, exquisite music, stunning regalia, athleticism, dance, and martial arts into one flawless program, not to be missed!
