From the recent acquisition of Zig V, a major work by the great American sculptor David Smith to the fine Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie School Tree of Life window, the de Young's collection in American craft and sculpture is of growing importance. The promised bequest of the Dorothy and George Saxe Collection (highlighted in the recent exhibition The Art of Craft: Contemporary Works from the Saxe Collection) will make the de Young one of the most important sites for contemporary studio craft in the United States.
