SABR Missouri - Kansas City
Saturday October 31, 2009 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Trailside Center
9901 Holmes Rd
Kansas City, Missouri 64131 Get Directions
We will have a meeting on Halloween Afternoon from 1 to 4 at the Trailside Center at 9901 Holmes, Kansas City, Mo. It is just a little bit north of the Holmes exit on I 435.

Speakers will be local baseball historian Todd Peterson, Steve Stewart of the Royals Network and Jeff Logan and David Starbuck of the Kansas City Baseball Historical Society.

Mr. Peterson will share with the local chapter a version of the presentation he gave at the SABR National Convention in DC this summer, The Whole Show: George Wilson 1875–1915

For ten years around the turn of the 20th century, George Wilson, a son of former slaves, was perhaps “the best left handed pitcher in the world.” Wilson was a larger-thanlife
figure with a flair for the dramatic, who would often tell batters he would strike them out as they approached the plate. Peterson covers “the Black Rusie” from his beginnings
to his stint in the Michigan State League, where one of his teammates was a young Honus Wagner, through his campaigns with the Page Fence and Chicago Columbia Giants, and
right up to his days with clubs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Cuba.

Steve Stewart

Royals Radio pre-game host and play-by-play broadcaster Steve Stewart just completed his second season with the Royals, his 10th in the Major Leagues and his 18th in baseball. Besides his radio work, Steve is also the host of "Royals Insider," a weekly television magazine program seen on Fox Sports Kansas City and KC's Metro Sports.

Stewart spent the previous four years as a Cincinnati Reds broadcaster. From 2000-2003, he filled in on Baltimore Orioles broadcasts. In 2002 he called several St. Louis Cardinals games on KMOX. Stewart previously broadcast in the minor leagues for the Calgary Cannons and Richmond Braves, as well as at the collegiate level calling University of South Carolina baseball.

A St. Louis native, Stewart began his broadcasting career as a student at Southern Methodist University.

Kansas City Baseball Historical Society
