Ensemble REBEL @ Beall Hall
Sunday November 22, 2009 at 3:00pm
University of Oregon- Beall Hall
E 18th Ave & Kincaid
Eugene, Oregon 97403 Get Directions
On Sunday, November 22nd the New York-based baroque ensemble REBEL will be making their first appearance in Eugene; providing a free-thinking approach to the Baroque style. The works in the evening's program will demonstrate the close cultural connections between Spain and its colonial lands in Latin America and Italy. The dance rhythms and occasional use of native languages provide an example of the relationship between European and indigenous cultures.

The performance will be at Beall Hall at 3:00pm and tickets will be sold for $40, $35, $30, and $20.

Since 1991 REBEL has earned an impressive international reputation, enchanting diverse audiences by their flamboyant style and their virtuosic, highly expressive, and provocative approach to the Baroque and Classical repertoire. The core period-instrument formation of two violins, recorder/traverse flute, cello/viola da gamba and harpsichord/organ is expanded with guest soloists for “Kingdoms & Viceroys: Music of Spain and its Dominions.” The program features works by Durón, Falconieri, Castellanos, de Salazar, Vivaldi, Quiroz, and Literes, Baroque-period composers from Europe and the Americas.
