The clever pleasures of ‘SCROOGE IN ROUGE: A British Musical Hall Christmas Carol” are abundant, varied, risqué and virtually non-stop. It is uproarious entertainment; a brilliantly constructed funhouse that works on multiple levels and provides holiday theatergoers with something to cheer about. This three-actor gem of a show highlights the notable virtuosity of an acting trio as they create, with great bombast and bravado, a well-delineated cast of over twenty characters between them. The show provides giddy games of gender, identity, reality and theatricality, all within the framework of the music hall at its early height in 1843. This happens to be the year that Charles Dickens wrote his potboiler of a morality tale to make a quick quid.
