IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE features Nathaniel Hackmann, Playhouse star baritone in CAMELOT, SOUTH PACIFIC and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, as small-town banker George Bailey. This will be Hackmann’s final Playhouse show prior to his upcoming year-long National Tour, in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, in which he will star as Gaston in cities across the country, including several in Tennessee. George’s wife Mary is played by Nicole Begue, recently seen as Guenevere to Hackmann’s Lancelot in CAMELOT.
A Playhouse cast of over 50 professionals, volunteers, kids and teens are the people of Bedford Falls, George’s hometown on Christmas Eve, 1946. Everyone plays “double roles”, since their characters are seen both as the happy, friendly folks of an All-American town---and as the discouraged, bitter people of what Bedford Falls might have been like if George Bailey had “never been born’—as George wishes when a major error threatens his bank. That Christmas Eve, Daniel Black as guardian angel Clarence guides George through a dark and fearsome town, where his bumbling Uncle Billy (Jason Ross) is a hopeless derelict, and his wife Mary is an old maid. Thanks to Clarence, George realizes that success is measured in what’s done for others, not fame and fortune, and that he, and all his friends and neighbors in Bedford Falls are blessed with a “wonderful life”.
