Join us for an open reception Thursday, December 3rd! Nicholas Heilig presents a collection of paintings, limited edition prints & original inks created over the last five years. The show will focus on a recent series of black and white abstracts drawn in the fall of 2009. The series represents a culmination of the artist's unique style, one that borrows heavily from past design knowledge yet also represents a distinct new art form dubbed "post-reality". Each image features a silhouette of a particular Vermont animal filled in with various subjects pulled from the animal's habitat and stylized motifs indicative of the Eastern woodblock masters Hiroshige and Hokusai. For instance, The Moose silhouette (seen here: http://animalabstracts.blogspot.com/) includes water lilies & pond weed, both favorite foods of this massive creature. It also features several waterfalls, a falling star, and some fishing motifs. Other images follow similar patterns, most include some sort of food that the animal eats, or at least features recognizable symbols from their home environment. The resulting work is meant to symbolize the complex amalgam of biological, psychological and environmental factors that dictate the behavior of all living things.

The artist will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The show will run for the entire month of December.
