Craig Watkins of the University of Texas at Austin will present a lecture on Youth and New Media at 18H in Auditório 1, Torre B, Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Craig Watkins teaches in the departments of Radio-Television-Film and Sociology and the Center for African and African American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. His teaching and research interests focus on race, media, hip hop, and, most recently, youth digital media cultures.

His current research explores young people's dynamic participation in online games, social media, and communities like Facebook and MySpace. In his forthcoming book, he takes a close look at how new media behaviors are transforming youth culture, identity, and everyday life.

The lecture is part of the Summer Institute in Digital Media of the UT Austin|Portugal Program, May 26 through June 28, 2008.
