Wordpress/blogging meetup during SXSW
Saturday March 11, 2006 at 7:00pm

7311 Decker Lane
Austin, Texas Get Directions
Track the main post here.

I'm organizing a small event to get some of the Wordpress community together, and I figured what better time than during SXSW!

Looks like Matt Mullenweg (Wordpress creator) is set to attend, and with that I'm going to kick off the invitation and see what kind of response we get!

No official agenda (yet! :)), but an opportunity for users and developers in the area to get together and discuss WP usage, futures, and the like (and blogging in general!).

Email questions, confirmations, or suggestions to wordpress@richardgoodwin.com.

Thanks!

Update 3/2/2006:
--------
WOW! What an outpouring of support! Looks like we have quite a few folks ready to roll and I'm really looking forward to it.

I?ve worked with Will of BarCamp and I think we?re going to use the same venue or thereabouts as BarCamp because of the amenities and price breaks, but it?s going to be a separate part of the restaurant with dinner tables etc.

Like Irina suggested @ upcoming, I want to have a ?dinner? portion so we can have some quiet conversation, etc. before any other festivities :)

So for those that want to drift off and participate in BarCamp, great, otherwise we?ll hang in our area, or can head out to any of the other bars/restaurants in the area.

So, while not required, I?d appreciate a comment or email if you have any concerns with this arrangement, otherwise I plan to see you there. You can also ring me at 512-736-7897 with any questions/comments.

Here?s the menu link, looks good and affordable: http://www.thistlecafe.com/menu/downtown/maincourses.html

And check out some pics of the venue at http://www.thistlecafe.com

Why not do it as part of BarCamp Austin?

Anyone else have any opinion on BarCamp? Seems like it might be a good option, albeit a little less focused.

well, i think we should go to dinner before parties start.....what do you guys think?

BarCamp looks like fun, but I'm not convinced that it's going to have the same vibe as a wordpress meetup.

No on BarCamp. Make this WordPress-unique.

K good info folks, keep the comments coming. For those that have time to chat or IM, and especially anyone that has been to a WP meetup before:

One thought has been around getting a specific side room/venue in the same BarCamp location and keeping it sectioned off for the Wordpress meetup. That way we can have some time to ourselves for a while, but others can come/go/mingle as needed. The benefits are:

- price breaks on food, drinks, coffee
- better net infrastructure
- closer to downtown for you party hounds!

That could be cool. Sounds great to me.

Folks, since Upcoming won't let me post long comments, and doesn't have RSS updates, check out my blog post comments for additional new details :)

(P.S. you can also use www.feedwhip.com to monitor this page for changes)

The address for this location was incorrect. Sadly, I made the $50 cab ride mistake to figure this out. So the location was not 7311 Decker Lane. Instead, it was Sixth and Lacava.
