Kent Plantation House
3601 Bayou Rapides Rd
Alexandria, Louisiana 71303 Get Directions
Enjoy a guided tour of the Kent Plantation House and grounds. The Kent Plantation House, built circa 1796, is typical of Louisiana colonial construction. It is raised off the ground on brick pillars to protect it from the flood waters of Bayou Rapides. All of the materials used to build the house came from the land: the clay used for the brick pillars, cypress for its sills and beams, and mud, Spanish moss and animal hair for its bousillage walls. The outbuildings are extensive, and appropriately furnished. They contain many quality antiques dating prior to 1855. All of the outbuildings interpret rural Louisiana life from 1796 to 1855.
