Hot from theatres in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, the award winning one-man play, "East 14th -True Tales of a Reluctant Player," makes its Oakland debut Friday, February 19, 2010, and runs through, February 27th at Laney College Theater. Actor, comedian and playwright Don Reed, an Oakland native, excitedly returns to the streets that inspired his coming of age story - that became a 2008 NAACP Double Nominee for Best Actor and Best Playwright and East Bay Express' Top Ten Plays for 2009.

In the spirit of John Leguizamo's "Freak," Sarah Jones "Bridge and Tunnel" and Whoopi Goldberg's "Whoppi," this hilarious and moving solo show set in Oakland in the '70's chronicles the true story of a young man raised by his mother and ultra-strict step-father as a middle class, straight A, God-fearing church man. The young man, however, wanted to be just like his dear old dad. Too bad he didn't know dear old dad was a pimp. Very funny, definitely poignant - a ride down the old East 14th you won't soon forget.
