WHY GENES?
Our genes express our heredity. They build and maintain our cells and allow us to pass our traits to our children.
Genes, in other words, have so much to say about who and what we are and who our offspring will be.
In honor of Valentine’s Day 2010, FertilityWire, a fertility-focused website sponsored by Pacific Fertility Center, is hosting its first tweetup/meetup to ask the question “Do You Love Your Genes?”
Since to know something is to love it, we’ll have a chance to find out more about our personal genes this evening with the help of experts in this field. (Saliva required!)
STATE-OF-THE ART GENETICS
Pacific Fertility Center’s Dr. Philip Chenette, a leading reproductive endocrinologist, will be joined by executives from Counsyl, a recognized start-up company focused on ending preventable genetic disease. They will give us a review of today’s state of the art genetic testing options and explain why it’s so significant for the health and development of own children and an important step toward increasing equality and social justice around the world.
Counsyl will offer a genetic test to three couples or individuals at the event through its Universal Genetic Test kit who would like to contribute a saliva sample. Results will be available within two weeks of the event. (Note: to participate in the testing, please do not eat, drink, or smoke 30 minutes before giving a sample.)
Pacific Fertility Center partner, Gene Security Network (GSN), will also be on hand to offer information on its industry-standard pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) test called Parental Support, which screens all 24 chromosomes in a single cell. They will award three $100 gift certificates to be applied toward the cost of the test.
So please join us for genes, love, award-winning wine, chocolate, and tasty, healthy appetizers!
