SJSU College of Business Co-Hosts the National Idea-to-ProductŽ Competition

On April 1, 2006, San Jose Staté University College of Business, EPICS@San José will co-host Purdue University's 2006 National Idea-To-ProductŽ (I2P) Competition for EPICS (Engineering Projects for Community Service) and Social Entrepreneurship. First place prize will be $15,000.

Teams will be participating from several universities with EPICS programs, including Purdue, San José State, Butler, Penn State, UC San Diego, and the Illinois Institute of Technology. Additionally, teams from MIT, UC Berkeley and University of Kentucky will be showcasing their socially beneficial design projects.

The goals of the National EPICS and Social Entrepreneurship Program is to spread the benefits of products developed by EPICS teams to other communities through commercial development of those products, create opportunities for EPICS student to learn about entrepreneurship by directly experiencing the process of developing products for the commercial market, and enabling EPICS teams and their project partners in the community to identify, protect, develop and benefit from the intellectual property embodied in the products. In 2005, the EPICS program was awarded the National Academy of Engineering Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education
