Exhibit: Barocco en la Frontera: Baroque on the Border
Friday June 4, 2010 - Saturday August 21, 2010
Las Cruces Museum of Art
491 North Main Street
Las Cruces, New Mexico 88001 Get Directions
Rigoberto A. Gonzalez will exhibit “Barocco en la Frontera: Baroque on the Border” at the Las Cruces Museum of Art from June 4 through August 21, 2010. A reception will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 from 5 to 7pm.

Mr. Gonzalez received his MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art in 2004. He is a native of Reynosa, Mexico and was raised in San Juan, Texas. Mr. Gonzalez is currently the Artist in Residence at the Roswell Artist Residency.

Mr. Gonzalez will present oil on linen paintings that are inspired by the Baroque Era. The works focus on topics that are relevant in today’s United States/Mexican border region. His paintings are inspired by “life along the border – the brutality associated with drug cartels, tales from folklore, and everyday moments of domestic tranquility.” His paintings depict these stories or corridos through the dramatic use of light, shading and color.

New gallery hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. The Museum will be closed Sundays and Mondays. For more information, call (575) 541-2137 or visit the website www.las-cruces.org/museums.

Funded by the City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street at the end of the downtown mall.
