Found Footage Festival
Saturday March 25, 2006 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Galapagos Art Space
70 North 6th Street
Brooklyn, New York 11211 Get Directions
The Found Footage Festival, the popular touring showcase of odd and hilarious clips from found videotapes, will return home this month for two shows at Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Friday, March 24th and Saturday, March 25th at 7 pm. Having played to sold out crowds in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Las Vegas since their last New York show, the Found Footage Festival curators are looking forward to debuting an all-new lineup of video clips and comedy in this special weekend engagement in Brooklyn.

This one-of-a-kind event compiles more than an hour?s worth of footage from videos that were found at garage sales and thrift stores and in warehouses and dumpsters throughout the country. Curators Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher host each screening in-person and provide their unique observations and commentary on these found video obscurities. From the curiously-produced industrial training video to the forsaken home movie donated to Goodwill, the Found Footage Festival resurrects these forgotten treasures and serves them up in a lively celebration of all things found.

Among the new clips to be featured in the March 24th and 24th shows:

-The high-pitched songs and stories of a preacher known as Lil? Markie
-An all-new collection of exercise videos featuring Marky Mark Wahlberg, O.J. Simpson and a quartet of rapping pregnant ladies
-An instructional video for a cosmetic device so frightening that it will forever haunt you

The Found Footage Festival has been named a "Critic?s Pick" in dozens of publications, including The Onion, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle and The Chicago Tribune, and was the subject of a front page story on Wired.com. The festival has been featured on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," the G4 cable network?s "Attack of the Show," and recently on National Public Radio (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4956950). Online independent film magazine Film Threat (www.filmthreat.com) gave the show a 5-star review (out of five), touting it as "true underground cinema." "If you want to see something truly different and disturbing," reviewer Eric Campos wrote, "the Found Footage Festival has what you're looking for en masse."

Additional information and a short preview of the show can be found on the festival?s website: www.foundfootagefestival.com.

ABOUT THE CURATORS

Nick Prueher began collecting found videotapes in 1991 after stumbling across a McDonald?s training video entitled, "Inside and Outside Custodial Duties." Since then, he and Pickett have compiled an impressive collection of strange, outrageous and profoundly stupid videos. Pickett, a former film technician, and Prueher, a former researcher at the Late Show with David Letterman, have written for "The Onion" and are currently in production on a feature-length documentary about a dirty country music singer (www.dirtycountrymovie.com).

ABOUT THE VENUE

Located in an old mayonnaise factory, Galapagos Art Space is a performance space and bar, offering multidisciplinary bills of theater, performance, live music, dance, film, and visual art. The venue is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at 70 North 6th Street, between Kent and Wythe Avenues, just three blocks from the Bedford Ave. stop on the L-train. For detailed directions, see the Galapagos website at www.galapagosartspace.com or call 718-384-4586. Tickets to the Found Footage Festival are available at the door for $10.00. Seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
